Natural Gas Pipelines

Linear projects, especially natural gas pipelines, present many unique construction and restoration challenges. Additional constraints such as environmental conditions, cultural resources, threatened and endangered species, property owner agreements, right of way access, waterbodies, road crossings and Town/County/State Boundaries further compound the project design, pipeline location and existing resources effected. This workshop presents several examples of linear construction and common problems associated with pipeline construction and restoration. These examples will be followed by creative solutions and out of the box thinking that have yielded successful restoration and compliant results for multiple projects.

NPDES Compliance • There’s An App for That

http://www.ieca.org/images/Events/Comply26_Logo1.jpg
Description: Technology has taken over. All industries utilize new apps, robots and self • driving cars to improve their production. Construction in particular is seeing an incredible spike in adopting cloud • based tools. In 2017 Sage Construction and Real Estate completed a survey of 1,300 firms to gauge their plans to utilize cloud • based programs and found 85% of respondents intend to use software applications to improve their organization. How can compliance management software improve your compliance operations? This presentation will explore how digital tools will increase your firm’s efficiency to inspect, improve and collaborate to meet your stormwater pollution prevention goals. We will explore how cloud • based applications close the gap between private and public agencies, enhance your state or federal inspection process and improve your company’s overall stormwater compliance.

Permeable Pavement Design and Construction

Stormwater drainage technology has evolved to the point where it is now possible to create permeable pavements that allow stormwater drainage to occur almost immediately. The benefits to permeable pavements include having rainwater drain directly into soil, decreasing urban heating, and reducing overall stormwater runoff. This concept is gaining acceptance through studies conducted in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. This webinar focuses on what constitutes permeable pavement, design tools and methodologies in designing permeable pavement, the structural and hydrological capacities, and design traffic characterization.

Polymers for Construction Site Erosion and Sediment Control

This course has been developed to familiarize participants with the concepts of polymers and how they can be used for Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC) on construction sites. The course is intended for developers, consultants, municipalities, landowners or anyone looking to learn about polymers and apply them for ESC. This course consists of six modules that discuss the basic concepts of polymers, soil stabilization with anionic polyacrylamide (PAM), PAM based stormwater clarification applications, additional PAM enhanced sediment controls, PAM assisted pond dredging, and anionic PAM application guidance for urban construction.

RAPPS (E&SC) for Oil and Gas Operations

This webinar will focus on reasonable and prudent practices for stabilization of construction activities associated with the oil and gas industry. RAPPS may not be a common acronym for erosion and sediment control practitioners outside of this energy sector’s operations but these “reasonable and prudent practices for stabilization” encompass the world of BMPs for this industry. Important operational, supplemental, and specialty RAPPs will be covered as well as introducing innovative RAPPs that can be used on your next project. RAPPS selection tools will be reviewed that assist the site supervisor in managing the site for protection of sensitive environmental resources and adjacent properties.

Sampling and Analysis for Meeting Compliance Requirements

Stormwater discharge monitoring has changed over the years, and the visual chocolate vs. vanilla observations have been ramped up to collection and testing of the water to see if meets certain discharge criteria. Most of the sampling requirements stem around turbidity, but there are other constituents (potential pollutants) of concern that may come into play depending upon the construction activities at the time of a rain event. It is important to understand how to collect, handle, store, and test samples to ensure that the results from the testing are defendable. This course will provide information to help prepare the person collecting the samples how to prevent contamination of the samples, understand the equipment and procedures for field testing, and how to document and handle samples that will require lab testing.

Sediment Basin Design: How Five Different Sediment Detention

This will be a course on sediment basin design and how varying practices lead to significant differences in sediment retention efficiencies. Participants will understand the importance of sediment control for water quality, and the importance of best management practices during construction. Participants will also understand sediment basin design changes and how they affect overall compliance with standard regulations.

Soil Health for Construction and Revegetation Projects

Healthy soil is a key component of long term erosion control and sustainable vegetation. One of the biggest ongoing challenges facing the erosion control and revegetation industries is the lack of healthy soil as a starting point on a project, as nearly all project sites are stripped down to nutritionally deficient subsoil layers incapable of supporting vegetation. This presentation will provide full details on what constitutes healthy soil in addition to providing comprehensive information about BST’s. Further and more importantly, this presentation will determine if BST are actually impacting soil health. In particular, multiple project sites that have been evaluated for various soil health parameters prior to and after BST application will be presented to determine soil health impacts.
