Are you prepared for Sea Level Rise? Shoreline Protection

This will be a case study describing local sea-level rise prediction and adaptive planning in Humboldt Bay in Northern California. Sea-level rise along with ocean acidification, seismic hazards, especially tsunamis, are already impacting communities, agriculture, and industries around the Humboldt Bay and climate change adaption is no longer theoretical. Learn about how the first lines of defense, featuring natural area buffers and shoreline protection are being implemented.

Basic Hydrology - Part 1

Knowledge of hydrology is essential for individuals interested in water quality and those involved with land use management activities including erosion and sediment control, designing and reviewing stormwater management plans, as well as local and state regulators and decision makers. This course will describe and discuss the factors that influence stormwater runoff and demonstrate the methodology and procedures to quantify runoff volumes. Precipitation, drainage areas, hydrologic soil groups, land use cover and hydrologic conditions will be explained, through a design example, to convert rainfall to runoff by using USDA-NRCS TR55 hydrologic analyses. Watershed runoff volumes will be calculated.

Basic Hydrology - Part 2

This course will take participants through the evaluation and determination of the parameters for the time of concentration for a watershed and its application in determining the peak rate of runoff for different storm frequencies in the watershed. The USDA-NRCS unit hydrograph use will be explained and its use to calculate the peak discharge will be demonstrated through a design example. Comparison of pre-developed and post-developed discharges will be made for estimating stormwater detention basin sizing. CISEC Module 4: Conducting Construction Site Inspections

This module covers the basic duties of an inspector by conducting a “virtual” tour of a construction site. Participants will reinforce their role and responsibilities as inspectors to meet EPA Phase I and Phase II requirements. The module will include “hands-on” exercises on documenting, communicating, reading SWPPPs and S&EC plans, writing reports, interacting with fellow participants, and assessing what to look for on a construction site.

Construction Dewatering

This webinar will highlight treatment technologies that can be implemented in the construction industry to manage turbidity from dewatering operations. Dewatering methods are briefly introduced; however, the course focuses on best available technologies to treat and polish pumped effluent. Participants will be exposed to a decision matrix that assists in identifying the appropriate treatment for a site specific operation. Upon selection of the treatment, basic design elements are presented for consideration. The webinar targets a broad based audience who can use the information provided as a foundation to then independently research a specific treatment technology in more detail.
