The Integration of Geosynthetics, Mechanical Structures & Vegetation for Stabilization of Slopes and Embankments - Part Two

This is part two of a two part webinar which will take the participants through the evaluation, design and implementation procedures required for the remediation of a variety of slope and embankment failures. The participant will learn how to identify the different types of slope failure and how to implement remediation procedures that incorporate Man Made products with vegetation to repair and enhance the failed slope and/or embankment.

Turbidity Reduction Techniques for Pumping Operations on Construction Sites

Have you ever sampled and measured turbidity numeric levels for pumping or dewatering operations on your construction site? How turbid is your discharge from your work zone while working on a borrow site or pipe culvert near a stream? Will your discharge meet effluent limits prior to entering jurisdictional waters? This webinar will cover a number of techniques to reduce turbidity levels from pumped effluent. Learn about new technologies, design strategies, and case studies to maintain water quality near your construction operation.

What’s a Contractor to do When the Sediment Pond Does Not Work?

A good design, proper construction and frequent maintenance still offers no guarantee that a sediment pond will discharge turbidity-free discharge. So what can a contractor do to improve the effectiveness of sediment ponds, after it has been constructed according to design standards; but still will not accomplish its objective? Briefly I will discuss the complexity of runoff generated by Mother Nature. Then I will examine the benefits of five initiatives: upstream treatment, inflow diversion, pond slope stability, filtering berms and discharge techniques. While any one of these components will result in some improvement of discharge quality, the incorporation of all five components will significantly increase sediment trapping. Examples of each component will be illustrated. Coupling these components will be the key to success!
