Design of Infiltration Practices: Low Impact Development Tec

This course has been developed to provide participants with the technical training required to design Low Impact Development (LID) infiltration practices and guides them through the steps of the design process. The course is intended for developers, consultants, municipalities, landowners or anyone with a general understanding of LID, looking to enhance their knowledge and learn how to design LID infiltration based practices and the process required. This course is comprised of five modules that discuss the science of infiltration, infiltration best practices, conducting a site evaluation and field reconnaissance, creating a detailed design, and the operation and maintenance of LID infiltration practices.

Designing Effective Sediment Basins

This webinar will detail the various components and requirements to develop effective sediment basin designs. The webinar will provide an overview to “SEDspread”, a (FREE) user-friendly spreadsheet-based design tool for designers to appropriately size sediment basin parameters. The workbook allows users to input site specific parameters and constraints to determine: basin capacity and configuration, surface skimmer size and dewatering rate, auxiliary spillway design, and baffle configuration. The workbook includes a summary sheet that provides users with schematics of the designed basin, available as a supplement to facilitate effective communication between designers and contractors for constructing/installing the basin. Participants are encouraged to download the latest version of SEDspread prior to the webinar by visiting the Auburn University - Erosion and Sediment Control Testing Facility website at: http://www.eng.auburn.edu/research/centers/auesctf/tools/sedspread.html

Gully Analysis and Control

Erosion and sediment control professionals are expected to recognize and understand various types of erosion, and the processes involved to effectively analyze and consider treatment options. The presentation will summarize the processes of gully formation, enlargement and effects and offer some examples of control methods applied on the Sumter National Forest in the piedmont of SC, USA. Treatments concentrated primarily on hillslope gullies which were often associated with ephemeral and intermittent streams. Gully control treatment began after the area was acquired as national forest in the 1930s, celebrated success as well as endured and learned from failure with most of the examples provided from the last 35 years.

Hydromodification - Causes, Effects, and Mitigation

As professionals in erosion and sediment control we are often focused on on-site erosion and sediment controls. When considering changes in runoff rates and volumes, however, it is essential to look downstream of the site to understand how changes in hydrology may adversely affect downstream receiving waters from the standpoints of degradation, aggradation, and aquatic habitat. This presentation will focus on the causes and effects of hydromodification, the roles of peak flow rates and runoff/streamflow volume, and the fundamentals of mitigating these effects. The presentation will provide examples of strategies to mitigate impacts of hydromodofication including the importance of stormwater volume reduction, control of frequently occurring events that form channels, and bed and bank stabilization.

IECA CEU 102: Course Design

IECA CEU 102: Course Design webinar provides instructors information regarding the submittal of the Learning Objectives to Learning Outcomes worksheet & the Course Design Document. Both of these are crucial documents as you build your course for approval by the IACET process. You, as an IECA Instructor, will walk away from this learning event with the basics of course design. During this webinar we will review the process of writing supporting learning outcomes from the learning objectives you created when you submitted your abstract. At the completion of this webinar gain insight in how to create a course design document (lesson plan) that supports your intended learning outcomes. You will learn to calculate CEU credit hours that reflect real time instruction and class participation.
