"It’s a Bird, it’s a Plane, it’s a Drone!": The Future of Site Inspections

This webinar will showcase current ongoing research focused on using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for conducting site inspections applications. The study, being conducted by Auburn University researchers, focuses on erosion and sediment control applications in construction. Participants will be exposed to UAV technologies to develop: project progression documentation, photogrammetric site visualization, highly detailed digital elevation models, and assessment of vegetation and crop health. Developed inspection methods, case study site assessments, and preliminary research findings and results will be discussed. The webinar will cover topics geared towards conducting inspections for construction, infrastructure, environmental, and agricultural applications.

A Different Way of Looking at Sediment Control on Constructi

Has your BMP failed and you don't know why? Do you feel like you are checking off the BMP box without a full grasp of the science behind the BMP placement? This course discusses the effects of stormwater runoff volume and rates on the performance of temporary sediment control BMPs on construction site. Many times, it is determined that the BMP was the cause of a failure. In reality, the BMP failure was caused by stormwater runoff in excess of the BMPs capacity, this failure could have been identified during the design process. This course will look at topography, soil type and geographic location and how you can use this information to predict the effectiveness of design for your construction site.

Applications of the High Definition Stream Survey

https://www.ieca.org/images/ErosionandSedimentControl.gif
Description: This is a live webinar presented by Brett Connell and James Parham, PhD. The High Definition Stream Survey (HDSS) approach was created to rapidly gather continuous geo-referenced data in a single pass for a broad range of stream and streambank conditions by integrating GPS, video, depth, water quality and other sensors. Results from HDSS data can be used to prioritize and locate areas of high erosion, determine the extent and distribution of instream habitat, locate areas that contribute to poor stream conditions, define the geomorphic condition for the stream, document restoration results and provide a powerful "virtual tour" experience. Trutta Environmental Solutions recently surveyed over 120 miles of the Duck River, TN in only eight days which also included over 100 cross sections to prove in depth bathymetric measurements for the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.

Biotic Soil Media - Engineering Soils for Sustainable Vegetation - Sponsored by Profile Products

On challenging and hard to access sites, engineered soils are proving to be a cost-effective topsoil alternative. By testing existing soil and selecting the right growing media, it is possible to increase the biological activity and add necessary organic materials for biotic components to thrive in. Creating and developing these micro ecosystems is now feasible where topsoil, compost and other sources of organic matter were formerly the standards.

Construction Dewatering

This webinar will highlight treatment technologies that can be implemented in the construction industry to manage turbidity from dewatering operations. Dewatering methods are briefly introduced; however, the course focuses on best available technologies to treat and polish pumped effluent. Participants will be exposed to a decision matrix that assists in identifying the appropriate treatment for a site specific operation. Upon selection of the treatment, basic design elements are presented for consideration. The webinar targets a broad based audience who can use the information provided as a foundation to then independently research a specific treatment technology in more detail.

Designing Effective Sediment Basins

This webinar will detail the various components and requirements to develop effective sediment basin designs. The webinar will provide an overview to “SEDspread”, a (FREE) user-friendly spreadsheet-based design tool for designers to appropriately size sediment basin parameters. The workbook allows users to input site specific parameters and constraints to determine: basin capacity and configuration, surface skimmer size and dewatering rate, auxiliary spillway design, and baffle configuration. The workbook includes a summary sheet that provides users with schematics of the designed basin, available as a supplement to facilitate effective communication between designers and contractors for constructing/installing the basin. Participants are encouraged to download the latest version of SEDspread prior to the webinar by visiting the Auburn University - Erosion and Sediment Control Testing Facility website at: http://www.eng.auburn.edu/research/centers/auesctf/tools/sedspread.html
